Overcoming Trauma and PTSD With Expert Psychiatric Care
Past traumatic experiences continue to disrupt daily life through flashbacks, anxiety, and emotional distress. These symptoms affect relationships, work performance, and overall quality of life, leaving people feeling trapped in a cycle of pain.
At Boundless Mental Health, our doctoral-level psychiatric nurse practitioners offer personalized, evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD. We offer therapy, medication management, and behavioral healthcare, available both in-person and remotely for your convenience.
What Is Trauma?
Trauma occurs when people experience or witness events that overwhelm their ability to cope. These potentially traumatic events include war, accidents, natural disasters, or sexual violence. Not everyone who experiences trauma develops long-term mental health conditions. Most people exposed to such events will experience distress but will recover naturally with time.
What Is PTSD?
Post-traumatic stress disorder is a condition that can occur after exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, or violence. Core features include intrusive recollections, avoidance, negative changes in mood and thinking, and heightened arousal that persist for more than one month and cause significant impairment.
How Trauma and PTSD Are Connected
All PTSD begins with trauma, but not all trauma leads to PTSD. When the nervous system remains stuck in a persistent threat response, symptoms consolidate into patterns that meet PTSD criteria. Early assessment, skills training, therapy, and, when appropriate, medication can reduce symptoms and restore function.
